Made of Class A open-cell melamine-based foam, the Hi-Sabin Panels serve as an acoustical cloud with very low density. These open cells absorb sound better than other foams, which results in a very high Noise Reduction Coefficient.
The core material of the panels is exposed, uncovered, for the greatest cost effectiveness and performance.
Sound absorption depends on thickness and mounting type. NRC as high as 1.25 can be achieved.

Panel Standoffs are made of the same melamine-based foam as the Hi-Sabin Panels and are used for “Type J” mountings. What is the Hi-Sabin Panel made of?
Basotect® by BASF, an open-cell low-density melamine-based foam that has extraordinary sound absorption characteristics. Basotect® has a Class A fire-rating per ASTM E84 with a flame spread index of 5 and smoke-developed index of 0.
Does the Hi-Sabin Panel meet International Building Code (IBC) requirements?
Yes. Section 2603.3 requires foam plastic cores of manufactured assemblies to have a flame spread index of not more than 75 and a smoke-developed index of not more than 450. In addition, panels are tested per UL 94 for flammability of plastic material and demonstrate Class V-0, and for low density foam HF-1. Basotect® is so fire resistive it is used for fire protection.
How are Hi-Sabin panels installed?
Best acoustical results and economy are achieved with Furred and Spaced Type J mounting per ASTM E795 utilizing hot melt adhesive and foam standoff mounts. Panels can also be Direct Attached Type A, Suspended Type E or Furred and Butted Type F-50.
What colors are available?
The Standard colors are white, light gray, and medium gray. White is stocked and ships in 2 weeks. Light gray and medium gray require 4-6 weeks.
What configurations are available?
Both flat- and patterned-face panels are available.
What sizes are available?
Standard sizes include rectangular panels in any combination of thickness at 1″, 1-1/2″, or 2″ and face dimensions of 12″ x 24″, 24″ x 24″ or 24″ x 48″. Flat surface panels are available in any custom size up to 2″ thick x 50″ x 90″. Panels may be cut to any custom two-dimensional shape including curves; consult factory.
